Join the team at Majestic Adventures for an incredible summer! Our staff spends their days outdoors in beautiful parks playing with children. If you have a passion for role-playing, theatre, and children, this summer experience will speak to your heart.

Majestic Adventures offers summer camps as well as year-round programs in Bellingham & Seattle, Washington. Our camp counselors are called “Quest Leaders”. Quest Leaders lead the children in our experiential live-action role-playing game called “Adventure Quest

Wages

Open Position: PT/FT Quest Leader for Seasonal Summer Camp

  • 30-40 hours per week in summer camps

  • Bellingham or Seattle, Washington (depending on where you live)

  • Mid-June through late-August

  • Lead outdoor, in-person, Live-Action Roleplaying programs.

  • Small groups of six children ages 6-17

  • Health and safety protocols must be observed on site

  • Mondays through Fridays in the summer, 9:00 am- 3:30 pm (Bellingham) or 8:00 am – 3:30 pm (Seattle). Fridays involve an extra .5 – 1 hour after camp (paperwork)

  • Option to take weeks off, with advance notice.

Skills and Experience for Quest Leader Positions

  • Required: 18 years of age and older (some exceptions for interns/volunteers)

  • Required: experience working with children and/or teens

  • Required: improvisational acting and storytelling skills

  • Required: high energy and physical fitness for hiking and swashbuckling

  • Required: Friendly with a sense of humor (the kids who come to our camp are coming to have fun!)

  • Required: a love for the fantasy genre (we play a fantasy-themed live-action roleplaying game with the kids)

  • Required: A willingness to learn and practice non-coercive leadership

  • Required: Great communication skills

  • Optional: experience playing and/or leading roleplaying games (live-action or tabletop)

  • Optional: conflict resolution skills, team building, and leadership skills, training in therapy or childhood education

  • Optional: martial arts, swordsmanship, arts and crafts

  • Being a Quest Leader is physically demanding (hiking and swashbuckling with a group of 5-6 children or teens for 5-6 hours/day), and requires maturity, professionalism, patience, conflict resolution skills, and great playfulness and compassion

Additional Open Positions

PT WEEKEND EVENT LEADER (BIRTHDAYS, FESTIVALS, ETC.)

  • Seeking one or two charismatic actors/storytellers for special events such as birthday parties and festivals.

  • 1-5 hours per weekend on average, more during busy periods & festivals

  • Wages: $25/hour for Birthday parties

  • Can be done in addition to Quest Leader position above or on its own. Due to COVID-19, many festivals are not currently operating.

  • Required: in addition to the requirements listed in the “Required Skills & Experience” section, it is required to have a reliable car (receive mileage reimbursement), good time management skills (to arrive at events early), and be able to give upbeat cheerful performances in acting, storytelling, and leading live-action roleplaying events.

PT QUEST LEADER FOR SCHOOL YEAR (FALL THROUGH SPRING)

  • 5-15 hours per week, depending on your availability and work

  • September through May / early June

  • Bellingham or Seattle, Washington (depending on where you live)

  • Lead after-school experiential education LARP programs in-person at schools and/or online, and lead school holiday programs

  • Potential in-person or online birthday party events (usually on the weekends)

  • Health and safety protocols must be observed on site.

Hiring Process

  • APPLICATION: Apply by April 15th

  • AUDITION: Applicants who show high potential in their job application, are invited to participate in a group improvisational acting, storytelling, and roleplaying audition. Two to six applicants and an experienced Majestic Adventures staff meet and play-acting games together. You do not need to prepare anything for the audition. This is a requirement for being hired (there is the potential for exceptions and Zoom auditions).

  • FINAL INTERVIEW: Meet with the director and/or hiring manager in-person, or virtually via zoom.

  • STAFF TRAINING: Our in-person staff training seminar usually takes place during early-mid June, the week before our first week of Bellingham Summer Camp. Training includes First Aid and CPR, skills for working with children, conflict resolution, and how to lead the Adventure Quest Live-Action Roleplaying as an experiential education program for children and teens. There will be additional online self-study training to be completed before the in-person training seminar.

  • ONCE HIRED: All staff must have a social security number for being an employee, and all will have a background check done on them. We require all staff to be mandatory reporters of child abuse (if you suspect abuse in the home environment or elsewhere, you are required to report on it).
